What Alice Found
Eighteen-year-old Alice has finished summer vacation and all her friends have gone to college. Out of boredom - and the looming prospect of a dead-end job in a New England backwater - she steals money from her boss and embarks on a 1000-mile road trip to Miami in a beat up Ford Escort. A succession of car problems beset the teen, until she is taken under the wing of eerily helpful Good Samaritans, Sandra and Bill. When Alice discovers the motivation behind their kind deeds, she embarks on a roadside sexual and psychological adventure - once she's been taught the rules of the game. "A finely wrought drama about a naive young woman who gets lost on the American highway. Gives that wonderfully salty actress Judith Ivey (A Life Less Ordinary, Washington Square) one of the chewiest roles of her career as Sandra, who cruises the interstate in a recreational vehicle driven by her older husband and business partner, Bill, a former marine. Her true profession isn't revealed until midway through the film, which takes a sudden, sinister left turn once the beans are spilled." - New York Times
