SEVEN EASY PIECES BY MARINA ABRAMOVIC
In 2005 at New York's famed Guggenheim Museum, Marina Abramovic performed for seven hours per night over the course of a week. From an art event to a social phenomenon, Abramovic's seven performances became the talk of the town. They created among her visitors a sense of sublimation, like prayer. “Night after night, from a drum-like stage on the rotunda's floor, she worked her way through the ironically titled Seven Easy Pieces, a gruelling, often painful, occasionally dangerous marathon of some of performance art's greatest hits. It offered a visceral dose of postwar art's most ephemeral genre, a sometimes spine-tingling demonstration of its excesses, and a lexicon of emotional effects that ranged from awe and exhilaration, empathy and tenderness, through disgust and fear to outright boredom.” - New York Times
