Vienna's Prater is the oldest amusement park in the world. The beguiling images in Ottinger's film provide a giddy ride through the carnival and Vienna's history. We meet carnies and Prater dynasties - like the descendents of the Man Without a Torso, who established several amusement businesses in 1900 that are still operating today, and the Prater fix-it man who diligently repairs broken illusions. By day, children stare wide-eyed at the puppet theatre and, by night, teens descend on Prater's centrifugal rap disco. Reality and illusion, past and present all come together in this spectacular cinematic experience.
