On the banks of the swollen Danube in northern Bulgaria is the town of Belene, where the citizens ready themselves for a future of prosperity with the coming of a nuclear power plant. While the locals like to complain endlessly about the giant mosquitos that plague the area, they are less talkative when it comes to discussing a darker time in the town's history, when it served as a Communist-era forced labour camp.
