PETE SEEGER: THE POWER OF SONG
“I don't know if Pete Seeger believes in saints, but I believe he is one.” - Chicago Sun-Times
A man and a musician who believes music can change the world, Pete Seeger continues to be what the Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines calls “the high priest of folk music”.
Ego-free, with an innate aura of dignity, the legendary 88-year-old Seeger shaped his times, penning songs like ‘If I Had A Hammer' and popularising tunes such as ‘We Shall Overcome'. Despite being targeted during the McCarthy years, he kept on singing, and even co-founded two folk magazines.
Jim Brown's doco honours one of the purest souls of the music business, featuring plenty of archive footage of Seeger's performances, and testimonies from the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and Arlo Guthrie.
