ART STAR AND THE SUDANESE TWINS, THE
"If Madonna and Angelina Jolie can do it, why can't performance artist Vanessa Beecroft adopt an exotic Third World baby?" - Variety
Vanessa Beecroft's work has always been provocative. Her nude tableau - photographs of dozens of naked women standing motionless in stark locations - both attracted controversy and made her a celebrity; the critics could never decide if it was feminism or exploitation. When she visits Darfur and falls in love with orphan twins Madit and Mongor, she has to ask herself if she's just another wealthy white celebrity seeking to adopt an exotic child.
This provocative portrait follows Beecroft through the adoption process, as she struggles with its political, personal and artistic ramifications.
"With Vanessa, there is no boundary between life and art." - Art dealer Jeffrey Deitch
