WHO'S AFRAID OF KATHY ACKER
“I like relationships and I like flesh.” - Kathy Acker
Boldly exploring the extremities of an extreme woman, Who's Afraid of Kathy Acker? chronicles one of America's original ‘outlaw writers', Kathy Acker: punk icon, one-time sex worker, tattooed, pierced and banned in many countries. Achieving notoriety through her sexually explicit novels, many of which were rewritings of classics from male writers retold from a raw and politically pervasive female voice, Acker lived life like her characters, wild and without boundaries.
Featuring archival footage, including interviews with Acker, animations and reconstructions of her life and works, director Barbara Caspar covers all aspects of Acker's untamed life, from her early years in New York through to her early death from breast cancer in 1997.
“Acker gives her work the power to mirror the reader's soul.” - William S. Burroughs
