REVERSE SHOT - REBELLION OF THE FILMMAKERS
gegenschuss - aufbruch der filmemacher
“With their liveliness, the filmmakers hide nothing from the camera - they talk over one another, they speak their mind… They say what they really think and that's what makes the film so lively.” - Berlin Film Festival
Butting heads against the hegemony of an older and more conservative generation, 13 architects of new German cinema - names like Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Wim Wenders and Werner Herzog - formed a production and distribution collective in 1971 known as Filmverlag der Autoren to expose their cinematic zeitgeist to a greater audience. While its fire burned brightly, this unusual group of auteurs ultimately crumbled under its own weight, disintegrating in 1977.
Presenting interviews, film excerpts and rare archival footage, Reverse Shot is about something more than filmmaking: it's about friendship, success, jealousy, destruction and death.
