SLEEPWALKING LAND
terra sonâmbula
“I was embarking on a journey that would kill the certainties of my childhood.”
Adapted from Mia Couto's novel of the same name, Sleepwalking Land is ultimately a magical fantasy based on events surrounding Mozambique's 15-year civil war. A young boy, Muidinga, and an old storyteller, Tuahir, are drawn together through violent circumstance on a road that slices through a war-torn landscape. When Muidinga finds a diary amongst a pile of dead bodies, he discovers the story of Farida, a mother who lives on a rusty ship at sea, waiting for the arrival of her missing son. He convinces himself that he's the boy in the story and, dodging the dangers on both sides of the road, his search for her begins.
