LION'S DEN
leonera
“Leonera the film's Spanish title is a place of transit. It's the place where the prisoner is retained before she can move on to somewhere else. It is a cell…” - filmmaker Pablo Trapero
In Argentina, only seven percent of murders committed by men occur in the heat of the moment, whereas 72 percent by women are considered crimes of passion. With this statistic in mind, filmmaker Pablo Trapero (Born and Bred, MIFF 07) introduces us to Julia, who wakes up in her apartment surrounded by the bloodied bodies of Ramiro and Nahuel. Ramiro is still alive. Julia is pregnant.
Facing the reality of bringing up her baby in prison, Julia tries recalling the muddled details with Ramiro incarcerated in the men's prison. But their thoughts are confused, just like their feelings towards each other.
