The film, based on a novel by Chekhov, tells about a young musician who, in Tzarist days, had a swim in a river before setting out to play at a ball but had all his clothes stolen. He hid in a wash-house hoping to be able to borrow some clothes when darkness fell, and met there a young girl who was in the same predicament. Just how they tried to help each other out of their delicate situation, is told by this amusing short story film.
