WHITE MOOR

Harap Alb

Director Ion Popescu Gopo / 1965 / Romania

Once upon a time there is a king who has three sons. And a king who has three daughters, so no heir. The kings are brothers. A test of courage is arranged to choose which son will inherit the empire. The lot falls on the White Moor, but on his journey a lot more falls on him. A wicked impostor, Lackbeard, steals his clothes and royal insignia. . . . This delightful tongue-in-cheek fairy tale, with all its time-worn materials, has been filmed with such exquisite use of colour photography, such outstanding sets and costumes, such gusto and comedy, and such dynamic acting, that a fresh and original work of art has been created.
