CHANCE, HISTORY, ART . . .
Using as its starting point a series of interviews with five artists recorded on videotape, this film examines the legacy of surrealism and its quest for a meeting point between the concrete world of the rational, and the world of desire and imagination. Three themes interweave through the film: Chance — the role of accident in painting and chance in performance; History — connections with surrealism and politics; Art — the present day. the way art merges with everyday life and is mediated by institutions. The use of re-filming techniques enables the video interviews to be combined with other images, creating a multiple viewpoint that mirrors the film's themes.
