DAGUERREOTYPES
This carefully constructed social document records the lives of the inhabitants of a street in an old pan of Paris. The butcher, the baker, the old couple who run a perfumery, a laundress, and others living and trading between 79 and 90 rue Daguerre, reveal their daily routines and describe their lives by speaking directly to the camera. Agnès Varda's skill and tactfulness elicit the inner qualities of these Parisians, and at the same time, create a social document about a way of life that is rapidly disappearing in the wake of new developments changing the face of the city.
