A KIND OF FAMILY
Glen Murray is a city councillor in Winnipeg. He's a popular community figure, a tireless worker for charities and a highly-respected gay role model. He lives his life in a hurry; 15 of his closest friends are dead or dying of AIDS. Now, Glen has taken the bold step of taking in a foster child. But this is no ordinary foster child; this is Mike. Mike Curtis is 18, straight, a drug user and a street prostitute. |
Andrew Koster's confrontational 'Public Idaho', is a fascinating film that pulls no punches as it captures the curious relationship between these two, oddly-matched men: the erratic, maddening behaviour of the teenage hustler who spends more time away from his foster home than within it; the demands this places on the impossibly forgiving, politically correct father; and the bond that keeps them together, whatever. It may not be Ozzie and Harriet, but if s a kind of family.
