A PLACE OF RAGE

Director Pratibha Parmar / 1991 / UK

Part history lesson, part inspiration, part call to action, A Place Of Rage is an engaging portrait of Black activists Angela Davis and June Jordan. Focusing on the role of women in the revolutionary movements, the film traces the beginnings of the civil rights movement from Rosa Parks to the radicalization of women within the Black church.

Reading from her poetry, Jordan poignantly delineates the ways in which 'the rage' of the 60s has lately turned inwards. Angela Davis recounts events surrounding her conspiracy charge. Interviewees include novelist Alice Walker and filmmaker Trinh T. Minh-ha railing against the misogyny inherent in many revolutionary movements.
