FOREVER ACTIVISTS! - STORIES FROM THE VETERANS OF THE ABRAHAM LINCOLN BRIGADE

Director Judy Montell / 1990 / USA

In 1936, 3200 American men and women joined Spain in its fight for democracy against Franco's fascist uprising. For many of them the Spanish Civil War was the first - but certainly not the last - battle they fought. These veterans have played significant roles in World War 2, trade unionism, the McCarthy period, civil rights, the Vietnam anti-war movement, disarmament and peace efforts, and currently are active in anti-intervention in Central America. In October of 1986, a contingent of Brigade veterans, now in their seventies and eighties, returned to Spain for the fiftieth anniversary of the Spanish Civil War-to remember, and celebrate, with their Spanish comrades and other International Brigade members.
