Don't Be Afraid
Beautifully photographed in black and white, this evocative depiction of Brixton youths constantly plays with the viewer's prejudices and tips them on their head. The lives of the characters - their friendships, their lovers, the response to a pregnancy - are shown in glimpsed moments, with a textured, non dialogue based soundtrack. The picture that builds is rich and extremely moving. Inspired, adventurous storytelling. (AT)
