Unknown Soldiers
A film which takes its substance from the lapse of time between Japan's military defeat and its industrial expansion. It attempts to makes sense of the underlying tensions associated with this expansion, as well as those which reside beneath the current relationship between Japan and the USA. Factors that obscure the gravity of the past, particularly events such as Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Unknown Soldiers draws upon a wide range of cultural and technological iconography. It utilises techniques like optical printing and pixiliation to produce images that are both idealised and distorted. (S C )
