LOVE COME DOWN

Director Clement Virgo / 2000 / Canada

The Tales of Neville and Matthew, two brothers, one black and one white. They have been each others keeper since their family was torn apart by a decade old tragedey. Neville is a comedian struggling with his art; Matthew, a boxer content with the pleasure and pain of his skin. On his first night back from drugs rehab, Neville meets and becomes enchanted with Niko, a beguiling young singer who helps him on his journey of self discovery. With the support of their long time friend Julian, and his sister Sarah, a nun with a past, Neville and Matthew come to understand love in all it's forms. Filmmaker Clement Virgo explores the nature of family, guilt and responsibility, revisiting his passion for writing and directing heartfelt stories about people seeking redemption in a confusing world. The brothers share a Mother who is in prison as a convicted murderer. Each is visited by demons of killing reconstructed fro the audience in flashbacks. The theme of adoption sees race figuring as a further subplot-- But never in a dogmatic or stereotypical way. Love Come Down was nominated for nine Genie Awards (The Canadian Oscar)
