SILENT PARTNER

Director Alkinos Tsilimidos / 2001 / Australia

Bill and John, two down-on-their luck gamblers are battling the booze and fighting a losing streak. The pair are offered salvation and the deal of a lifetime by the enigmatic Alex Silver—to take over the training and care of Silver's red brindle greyhound, a potential champion.

Silent Partner is a tragi-comedy about friendship and survival in a world of limited opportunities. David Field (Ghosts Of The Civil Dead, Chopper, Two Hands) and Syd Brisbane (Bad Boy Bubby) get under the skin of their characters, capturing genuine pathos, black comedy and a feel for the desperation of their lives.

Bill and John continue to abide by Silver's commands despite the greyhound s poor showing at its city debut race. Deep in debt, they reluctantly agree to dope the dog and pin their future and all their money on the outcome. Could it be that Silver has held all the winning cards from the outset?

I have always been inspired by uncompromising stories about people on the fringe of society. Everyone has been screwed by an Alex Silver I have met Silver. He gave me hope as well, then stote my dream "— Director, Alkinos Tsilimidos
