L should leave us in no doubt that something fascinating is happening in Greek film." - Senses of Cinema

Man lives in his car. His existence consists of delivering honey - one jar at a time - to a narcoleptic man, and meeting up with his estranged wife and kids, who live in a different car. When Man is fired from his delivery job, he gives up his car and searches for freedom with a motorbike gang.

From first-time director Babis Makridis and screenwriter Efthimis Filippou (Dogtooth, MIFF 09; and Alps, screening in this year's program) comes the strange and compelling L, a defiantly individualistic film. Wry, dry and possessed of a biting, offbeat humour, L has confidently positioned itself as a cornerstone of the recent wave of Greek absurdist films, and will make you consider anew the boundaries of cinematic convention.

Babis Makridis is a guest of the festival.
