Triple R will broadcast four of its drive programs live from the MIFF Festival Lounge, each broadcast featuring panel discussions with a selection of guests and Triple R presenters on a range of Backbeat titles.
Monday 3 August: Maps with Fee B-Squared
Discussions will revolve around Neil Young’s apocalyptic comedy Human Highway: Director's Cut, the Danny Fields biopic Danny Says and Mavis!, about singer and civil rights activist Mavis Staples. Featuring panel discussions with a selection of guests including Jo Roberts, Josh Nelson, Elizabeth McCarthy, Dave Graney, Ella Thompson, Max Crawdaddy and a live acoustic performance from Simon Bailey(Ponyface).
Plus, The Pink Tiles perform live at 6pm.
Tuesday 4 August: Round & Round with Sarah Smith
Discussions will revolvearound Breaking a Monster, Salad Days: A Decade of Punk in Washington, DC 1980-1990 and The Ecstasy of Wilko Johnson. The session will also feature a pre-recorded interview with Julien Temple, director of The Ecstasy of Wilko Johnson. Live guests include Annaliese Redlich, Tim Scott, Marcus Teague, Mark Wilson and a live acoustic performance from Tom Lyngcoln (Harmony/The Nation Blue/Pale Heads).
Plus, Ella Thompson performs live at 6pm.
Wednesday 5 August: Test Pattern with Woody McDonald
Woody will take a look at the Backbeat film B-Movie: Lust & Sound in West Berlin and our Psychedelic! stream, with an emphasis on Australian psychedelic art and music. The show will also feature a live acoustic performance from Leah Senior.
Plus, Time For Dreams perform live at 6pm.
Thursday 6 August: Breaking and Entering with Lauren Taylor and Simon Winkler
Discussions will revolve around 808, on the influence of the Roland TR-808 drum machine, and Song of Lahore, a documentary on the struggle to keep musical traditions alive in the Pakistani city. The session will also feature a pre-recorded interview with Andy Schocken, director of Song of Lahore. Joining Lauren and Simon will be special guests HTRK, Systa BB, Dan Dare and a live performance from Sui Zhen.
Plus, Sunbeam Sound Machine perform live at 6pm.
