MIMOSAS
"Adventurous viewers are invited to take the road less travelled, and then some, in this enigmatic mountain odyssey." – Screen Daily
Somewhere in time a caravan of travellers treks through the High Atlas Mountains, searching for a passage that will enable them to return their dying Sufi master to his loved ones. But as the old man approaches death, Ahmed, a young rogue in his party, is inspired to rise up and assume command with the help of another mystery journeyman.
Following on from his lauded debut You Are All Captains, French-born Spanish filmmaker Oliver Laxe explores the stunning vistas of his adopted home of Morocco, where the rugged landscapes and hypnotic light frame his characters' pilgrimage. Winning the Grand Prize in the Critics' Week at this year's Cannes Film Festival, Mimosas is also a must-see festival complement to Ben Rivers' The Sky Trembles and the Earth is Afraid and the Two Eyes Are Not Brothers, which incorporates behind-the-scenes footage of Laxe's epic into its own hallucinogenic tapestry.
"Alluring but strange … mirrored, refracted and amplified tales of desert pathmaking and the search for equilibrium." – MUBI Notebook
