STAYING VERTICAL
"A topsy-turvy recasting of gender roles, an essay on the volatile nature of human sexuality, and an impressively sustained exercise in dream logic." – Los Angeles Times
In a remote district of rural France, a travelling filmmaker begins a sexual liaison with a shepherdess. They have a baby together, but she soon flees without warning. Left to care for the child on his own, the filmmaker embarks on an increasingly bizarre journey through homelessness and unexpected encounters.
One of the most anticipated films shown at this year's Cannes Film Festival, Staying Vertical, a darkly humorous and transgressive exploration of desire and masculine identity, is the latest work by French provocateur Alain Guiraudie (Stranger by the Lake, MIFF 2013).
"Marginally more clothed but no less risqué than Guiraudie's Stranger by the Lake, this follow-up might have been titled ‘Stranger Still'." – Time Out London
Contains sexually explicit content and scenes which may offend some viewers.
