GIRLS' TRIP
Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah lead a terrific cast in this raucous, raunchy and riotous celebration of sisterhood, friendship and fun times.
Director Malcolm D Lee made his name with The Best Man, a rom-com about four men dealing with life, love and the challenges of maintaining long-term friendships. Nearly two decades later, his Girls Trip brings us four women – lifelong friends Lisa (Pinkett Smith), Sasha (Queen Latifah), Ryan (Regina Hall) and Dina (Tiffany Haddish, in a breakout role comparable to Melissa McCarthy’s in Bridesmaids) – rekindling the bonds that have been worn down by motherhood, middle age and a secret from their past.
Written by Tracy Oliver and Black-ish creator Kenya Barris, Girls Trip lets its African-American leading ladies run wild with the kind of debauched hijinks usually reserved for white men in films such as The Hangover, as the women’s luxury weekend get-together in New Orleans quickly escalates into an all-out festival of dancing, drinking, brawling and romancing. But this women-behaving-badly film tempers its outrageous comedy with a genuine and emotional dramatic side, ensuring Girls' Trip is as poignant and warm-hearted as it is wet-yourself hilarious.
'Girls' Trip delivers on its promise of a liberating good time, thanks in large part to the spirited characterizations and believable chemistry of its four immensely appealing leads.' – Hollywood Reporter
