SHOCK WAVES - DIARY OF MY MIND
A troubled teen murders his parents, then sends his diary to the teacher who encouraged him to delve into his deepest feelings. Who, then, is culpable? A shocking true story comes to riveting life in the latest from trailblazing Swiss filmmaker Ursula Meier.
In February 2009, in a tiny Swiss town, teenager Benjamin breaks into his father’s gun cabinet, takes the pistol he finds there and shoots both his parents. It’s an unthinkable crime, but when the diary Benjamin has been keeping at the urging of his well-meaning teacher is discovered to have been sent to her, the community finds a new target for their grief and anger.
Part of a series where Swiss filmmakers create work based on real events, Diary of My Mind is the latest from acclaimed filmmaker Ursula Meier (Sister, MIFF 2012). Driven by mesmerising performances from Ursula’s regular actor Kacey Mottet Klein as Benjamin and Fanny Ardant as his teacher, Diary of My Mind is a complex film about guilt, responsibility culpability and looking to blame – with no easy answers.
"Brilliantly performed by Fanny Ardant and Kacey Mottet Klein… A riveting exploration of adolescent psychosis, teacherly responsibility, and the moral minefield that connects them." – Variety
