Sword of Trust
Marc Maron teams up with Lynn Shelton for a rambling, lovable comedy of small-town grifters and Civil War truthers.
Following the death of her grandfather, Cynthia (Brittany Runs a Marathon’s Jillian Bell) hopes that she and partner Mary will inherit his Alabama house. Turns out, all she got was a Civil War-era sword. When she attempts to pawn the relic, it turns out to be more than anyone had bargained for.
Enter irascible pawnbroker Mel (Podcast king and comic Marc Maron) and his wayward assistant Nathaniel. They soon discover the sword might just prove that the South won the "War of Northern Aggression". The question is: should this unlikely quartet try to profit from conspiracists who want the South to rise again?
Lynn Shelton, best known for Humpday (MIFF 2009), Your Sister’s Sister (MIFF 2012) and a string of cult TV comedies including several episodes of Netflix series GLOW (which stars Maron), gets the chemistry just right. A talented ensemble elevates this improv-heavy shaggy dog story with quick wit and charisma.
