Vision Portraits
In this deeply personal documentary, award-winning filmmaker Rodney Evans contemplates his loss of vision alongside the artistic processes of three other artists.
Diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder that causes the gradual deterioration of vision, Sundance Special Jury Prize-winning filmmaker Rodney Evans (Brother to Brother, MIFF 2005) takes audiences on a journey through the creative processes of himself and three other artists with disabilities – dancer Kayla Hamilton, writer Ryan Knighton and photographer John Dugdale – while evoking the sensation of losing his eyesight by simulating the stages of blindness onscreen.
This empathetic and thought-provoking work uses abstract animation, multi-coloured images and other formally inventive techniques to immerse the viewer in the world of the visually impaired. The result is a singularly insightful and moving film that brings us into a world of artistic possibility.
