In Conversation: Ondi Timoner

Spend an hour with trailblazing documentary filmmaker and two-time winner of the Sundance Grand Jury Prize Ondi Timoner for a discussion about her celebrated career, including Dig! XX. Hosted by Zak Hepburn.

Timoner’s cult film Dig! (2004) charted the intense friendship-slash-rivalry between the frontmen of bands The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols and took home the Sundance Grand Jury Prize for Documentary. Twenty years on, Timoner has created an enhanced, extended and reimagined cut of the film, Dig! XX, adding over 40 minutes of new material. Devoted to telling stories about “impossible visionaries”, Timoner has focused her lens on subjects as varied as online privacy in We Live in Public (MIFF 2009) to cabaret icon Amanda F

ing Palmer on the Rocks (MIFF 2014) to the US opioid crisis in Coming Clean (2020). Her most personal film to date, Last Flight Home (2022) – about the extraordinary life and intentional death of her father, Eli Timoner – was shortlisted for an Academy Award and nominated for an Emmy.
