Tickets

MIFF recommends arriving at least five (5) minutes before the session start time to guarantee a seat.

Patrons who are not seated by session start time are latecomers and may not be admitted late to the session; this includes sessions with allocated seating. All MIFF sessions start at the scheduled time, with approximately eight (8) minutes of pre-roll.

Latecomer tickets may be resold to a Standby queue. There are no exchanges or refunds available if patrons arrive late to a session.

MIFF has implemented allocated seating at select venues for 2024. When booking online, patrons will be allocated the best available seat or can choose from the remaining available seats.

All other MIFF venues will continue to operate as general-admission seating for all standard sessions. To guarantee a good seat, please arrive early for your sessions.

MIFF recommends arriving at least five (5) minutes before the session start time to guarantee a seat for all sessions.

A Standby session means there are currently no tickets available. There are two ways you may secure tickets to a Standby session:

  • Roughly 48 hours before a Standby session, a small number of tickets may become available to purchase. We recommend checking the website and MIFF social channels for up-to-date information.
  • If you are unable to book a ticket in advance, you can join the Standby queue at the venue one (1) hour prior to the session start time. Please approach a MIFF Front of House staff member to join the queue. Patrons must remain in the Standby queue to be eligible. After the session has commenced, Front of House staff will determine how many Standby queue patrons can safely be admitted. If there are empty seats, you will be able to purchase a ticket at the relevant session price. Please note: Standby patrons may be admitted up to 15 minutes after the commencement of the film.

Admission to sessions is not guaranteed, but Standby queues generally have a high success rate.

In the event of a cancelled session, all single-ticket holders will automatically be refunded to the card used at the time of purchase.
Pass (including Festival Passport) holders will have the session refunded back onto the pass automatically.

Please allow up to three (3) days to process your refund. You will receive an email to confirm your booking has been refunded.

You can present your tickets on your phone, via the PDF ticket you received via email, or by logging into the MIFF App to access your ticket.

If you prefer, you can print your tickets. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or newer, which can be downloaded for free from Adobe’s website.

Each ticket is valid for one entry to one session only. Every ticket is scanned for entry into the cinema.

MIFF is a cashless festival. Payments can be made on this website by credit card (Visa or MasterCard) or MIFF gift voucher. MIFF Box Offices only accept credit cards (Visa or MasterCard), EFTPOS and MIFF gift vouchers.

Valid concession or membership ID must be presented when buying or collecting tickets and on entry to the cinema. Classification

To allow MIFF to screen the most up-to-date films from around the world, the Australian Classification Board grants the festival special customs and censorship clearances.

Unclassified 15+ is not the same as an MA 15+ rating, but it acts in the same way: nobody under 15 can legally view the film unless they are with a parent or reasonable adult guardian.

Please note that classifications are sometimes updated during the festival; to see whether a film you want to see has been officially classified, please check the website. For further information regarding film classification, please visit classification.gov.au.

To allow MIFF to screen the most up-to-date films from around the world, the Australian Classification Board grants the festival special customs and censorship clearances.

Unclassified 18+ is not the same as an R18+ rating, but it acts in a similar way: nobody under 18 (including infants) can legally view a film with this exemption, even with a parent or adult guardian. One of the key differences between R and Unclassified 18+ is that the content will not be as per an R movie – rather, the film has not yet been classified as suitable for anyone other than an adult audience.
