Take a masterclass with visionary American director David Lowery, exploring his storied career. Hosted by Alexei Toliopoulos.

Taking time out from his Bright Horizons jury duty, multi-award-winning filmmaker David Lowery will spend an hour speaking about his work to date. His feature films include Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner Ain’t Them Bodies Saints (MIFF 2013); the live-action adaptation of Pete’s Dragon (2016); A Ghost Story (2017), starring Rooney Mara (La Cocina, MIFF 2024) and Casey Affleck; The Old Man & the Gun (2018), with Robert Redford and Sissy Spacek; and the Dev Patel–led fantasy epic The Green Knight (2021). He has edited films such as Shane Carruth’s Upstream Color (MIFF 2013), and directed a segment of the anthology film The Year of the Everlasting Storm (MIFF 2021). He is the writer and director of the upcoming A24 film Mother Mary, which stars Anne Hathaway and Michaela Cole and features original songs by Jack Antonoff and Charli XCX.

Alexei Toliopoulos is a comedian, writer, podcaster, film critic and technically a critically acclaimed investigative documentarian. You know him from investigating mysteries on TV show and podcast Finding Yeezus, being funny on ABC TV’s Question Everything, and celebrating cinema on The Last Video Store and Sunburnt Screens podcasts. Alexei owns over 3000 Blu-ray DVDs and three Blu-ray DVD players.
