Kate Winslet delivers a captivating performance alongside a stellar cast in this portrait of legendary WWII war photographer Lee Miller.

In 1977, a young journalist (Josh O’Connor, Challengers; La Chimera, MIFF 2023) sits down to interview Miller (Winslet) in her final years. The straight-shooting subject recounts her unlikely journey from 1930s model to photographer on the frontlines of WWII, where she captured history as it happened: the Blitz, the aftermath of D-Day, the horrors of the Third Reich, the wounds left across Europe.

Headlining an incredible international cast – Alexander Skarsgård, Marion Cotillard and Andy Samberg star with Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie; Mandy, MIFF 2018) and Noémie Merlant (Portrait of a Lady on Fire, MIFF 2019) – Winslet delivers an impressive, impassioned portrayal of an iconic figure, one who recently served as inspiration for Alex Garland’s Civil War. Making her directorial debut, trailblazing cinematographer Ellen Kuras (Summer of Sam; Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind; Coffee and Cigarettes, MIFF 2004) matches the power of Miller’s images with an astonishing visual palette.

“[Winslet’s] fantastic interpretation of a woman unconcerned with upholding the status quo stands out so intensely … This rageful portrayal is among her very best transformations.” – Variety
