The Masterpiece
La Gran Obra
In this Sundance Short Film Grand Jury Prize winner, race and class complicate the transaction between a wealthy couple and the scrap dealers they invite to their mansion.
Leo and Diana meet immigrant scrap dealers Salif and Yousef at a recycle centre. Diana soon asks the pair to drop by their home so they can offload some possessions, but a discovery leads to an amusingly awkward exchange. Àlex Lora Cercós’s gripping exploration of class disparity builds from a slow simmer to viscerally unbearable tension, culminating in a confrontation that exposes the hidden hostility of polite society.
