State Library Victoria was established in 1854, making it Australia's oldest public library and one of the first free libraries in the world. It is also Australia’s busiest library and, as of 2018, the world's fourth-most-visited library.
As a MIFF 2024 venue, please note that:
- Main entry is via Swanston St (Entry 1)
- An accessible entrance is available via Swanston St (Entry 1)

Accessibility
SLV has six (6) entrances, with three (3) main entrances: the Swanston Street entrance (Entry 1), the La Trobe Street entrance (Entry 5) and the Russell Street entrance (Entry 6). All MIFF events will enter through the Swanston St Entrance (Entry 1), including for step-free and wheelchair-accessible entry.
Swanston St Entrance (Entry 1):
- Entry is via the large outdoor staircase from Swanston St towards the main entrance doors under the portico.
- For step-free and wheelchair-accessible entry, use the ramp to the left of the portico.
- Entry is through the front doors into the Welcome Zone.
- For Hansen Hall, there is step-free/wheelchair access through the Welcome Zone on the left.
- For Conversation Quarter, there is step-free/wheelchair access through Hansen Hall.
- For Ian Potter Queen’s Hall, take the large staircase past the Welcome Zone on either the left or right side to Level 3 and Ian Potter Queen’s Hall is on the right. For step-free/wheelchair access, take the lift on the left of the Welcome Zone to Level 3 directly into Ian Potter Queen’s Hall.
- For La Trobe Reading Room, take the large staircase past the Welcome Zone on either the left or right side to Level 3 and La Trobe Reading Room is on the left. For step-free/wheelchair access, head towards the Quad past the large internal staircase and follow signs to the lift on the right. Take this lift to Level 3 and La Trobe Reading Room is on the right.
- For step-free/wheelchair access between Queens Hall and La Trobe Reading Room, take the lift down to the Welcome Zone and head to the secondary internal lift next to the Quad on Level 2 (Ground). Take this lift to Level 3 for the La Trobe Reading Room.
Bathrooms, including accessible bathrooms, are located in close proximity to Hansen Hall and the Ian Potter Queen’s Hall. There are additional bathrooms on Level 1 (Lower Ground), accessible via the large internal staircase only.

Located in the heart of Melbourne’s Fed Square, ACMI celebrates the wonder and power of the world’s most democratic artform – fostering the next generation of makers, players and watchers.
Box Office
The MIFF Box Office is located on Level 1 at the Fed Square entrance, on the right after you enter through the glass doors. There is step-free/wheelchair access to the Box Office from the Fed Square entrance or via the internal lift from the Flinders St entrance. The MIFF Box Office is not at a wheelchair-accessible height; however, the ACMI Box Office is at wheelchair-accessible height. Patrons can be served at this location where necessary.
Food and Beverage
In the Level 1 foyer is the MIFF Festival Hub, presented by Challenger – a new home for MIFF audiences to eat, drink and discuss cinema at ACMI. Open midday–late at Cameo, ACMI, Fed Square.
Next door is the Campari Cinema Lounge, the place to see and be seen at MIFF this year. Join us for a pre-screening cocktail or a post-screening tipple from 5pm to late each evening.

The Capitol
Melbourne
Boasting a spectacularly ornate Chicago Gothic style, The Capitol is one of Melbourne’s most beloved architectural icons. Following RMIT’s state-of-the-art refurbishment, it has been transformed into a contemporary centre for the cultural and education industries, with a variety of flexible spaces available to innovate and enjoy.
Box Office
The MIFF Box Office is located in the Foyer, accessible via a set of stairs from the Swanston Street entrance or via the lift in the Capitol Arcade to Level 1 for step-free/wheelchair access.
Food and Beverage
There is a bar and candy bar located in the Foyer, offering beer, wine and refreshments. The cinema is licensed.
